It was a different Memorial Day weekend this year than the usual for the kids and us. Bree, Travis, and Deacon left on Friday to Island Park with the Brice family and with Ryan Thomas' family. They all stayed at the Brice's cabin. Brianna emailed me these pictures. It sure seems like they had a great time, especially Deacon.
Brianna said that Xana is the best story teller and that Deacon was mesmerized.
Ryan and Karen Thomas with Parker (their grandson) and Deacon.
I love this picture of his big head!
In the past, we have always gone to Logan. We make little bouquets with tiny flowers from Dick's father's garden and place them in little Dixie cups. We accompany Grandpa Vosco on Sunday and Monday and decorate the graves in Logan, Brigham, Smithfield, and Willard. This was the first time we didn't do this since we've moved back to Idaho which was 17 years ago. Richie and Sophia went to visit grandma Ruth Call's graveside on Sunday. Grandpa Vosco and Giselle continued the Dixie cup tradition that Dick's mother started years and years ago. These are some of the little bouquets that Giselle made with her grandfather. They took them out on Saturday and all of Sunday.
Dick has been exposed to a lot of colds/viruses/bugs/runny noses lately. Naturally with his cancer and his treatment, his little bug has turned into something major since he's so weak already. He hasn't been feeling very well. He has a horrible cough. Dick decided to stay in Burley and get well so that he could be strong enough for his next chemotherapy cycle which starts this coming Wednesday. Instead, on Saturday morning Dick announced we were going on a road trip to Craters of the Moon National Monument. We lived in Twin Falls for 6 years and have lived in Burley for 17 years and we've never gone to see it before.
****FUN ROAD TRIP****

So they told us that this volcano goes off every 2000 years.
About 2000 years ago the volcano erupted.
You do the math.
750,000 acres of volcanic origin is just about all you see.
"The surface of the moon as seen through a telescope" is how people describe this area.
It was a fun experience but it's wasn't what I was expecting. I was glad we spent some time together as a family.
After all that's the best part of any road trip.

On our way to Craters of the Moon we stopped at the cutest little burger joint in Shoshone. We've passed by it so many times but we hadn't stopped since we lived in Twin Falls 23 years ago.
It was already pretty old back then.
They had a cloth towel dispenser in their bathroom.
This was a blast from the past.
Burgers cost a little bit more. ;)
In all honesty, their burgers weren't the greatest. If I'm going to have a hambuger, I'd rather have one from Five Guys.
They were also so busy and the service wasn't fast enough.
Anson gave a great talk on Sunday. He didn't have much time to prepare but it was amazing. His talk was on the importance of studying the scriptures.
***Monday***
Anson woke up really early today to go put out flags for Memorial Day with all of the rest of the young men and their leaders.
When he got home he went fishing at Emerald Lake.
Amanda Lopez (Brianna's best friend) came to see us today with her little niece. Her and her parents came to visit some of their family who live in town. It was so good to see her.
She is such a good friend to Brianna.
After a late lunch, Anson went fishing again with two young ladies from his senior class. The two girls had never been fishing before so he volunteered to take them.
Later in the evening Dad and Anson went to the movies.
Aubrey and I were planning on having a girl's night until
Brianna called and asked if we could watch Deacon so that her and Travis could go to the movies. They just returned from their little getaway in Island Park.
I replied, "Of course we'll let him entertain us!"
That would be better than any Life-time movie on the television!
Look who's in the back seat of my car.
We missed this little guy so much!
My sweet brother, Dago called me this evening and made my end of this Memorial Day weekend complete. He calls me regularly and it's always so good to hear his voice.
He had just got home from visiting the rest of my brothers and sisters in south Texas.
He was feeling a little melancholy. Our other brother, Robert is battling liver cancer and he feels that Robert's time on this earth is coming close to the end. It brought him memories of our other brother, Xavier, who passed away from liver cancer in 2006.
Maybe it's a sign of getting older but
I am so grateful everyday for my good health.
Everyday I am thankful for my Heavenly Father allowing me to live another day to enjoy life to its fullest.
Having the opportunity of being able to simply wake up and enjoy the blessings of a brand new day is really one of the greatest gifts from our Heavenly Father.
