"I promise you that if you will keep your journals and records, they will indeed be a source of great inspiration to your families, to your children, your grandchildren, and others, on through the generations. Each of us is important to those who are near and dear to us-and as our posterity read of our life's experiences, they too, will come to know and love us. And in that glorious day when our families are together in the eternities, we will already be acquainted. What could you do better for your children and your children's children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved? Some of what you write may be humdrum dates and places, but there will also be rich passages that will be quoted by your posterity. We hope you will begin as of this date." ~Spencer W. Kimball

"In family relationships, love is really spelled t-i-m-e." _Dieter F. Uchtdorf

A persons own family is without a doubt, the greatest wealth that we will ever possess. Treasure every moment and take the time to ensure that the story you create is one that you will be proud of and look back on with a huge smile.

Pomerelle

For one of Anson's Christmas gifts, we gave him two trips to go snowboarding at Pomerelle. We took him up today and I am so glad we got home safe. We experienced quite the blizzard coming down the mountain. I think my blood pressure shot through the roof of the car. I'm glad Dad got us down the mountain safe. There were areas that were total whiteouts.

When we left Burley it was like Spring. Then when we first got there, it got very foggy.

 Then it cleared up.
Dad wasn't feeling well at all but he insisted on taking Anson. I was so glad that he was driving and not me when we were coming down that mountain.

Night skiing is cheaper and it's so pretty, but I think it's so much safer to go during the day in case a blizzard decides to surprise you.
Aubrey got a haircut and highlights for one of her Christmas presents. Thanks Giselle!
The last time Anson got on the lift, like five minutes later, the wind started blowing, and there was tons of hail and snow. There was absolutely no visibility. Anson didn't even have any goggles so we were very worried. Luckily he got down without any problems.
 My boy was safe!
Dad was worried about driving down the mountain, but he had no idea how bad it would be.
When we got home, Brianna and Giselle said they had a blizzard in Burley too. They were very worried about us. I lost reception because of the storm so they couldn't get a hold of us. No wonder it was awful up on the mountain!

4 crazy girls

I met these women 25 years ago. I was very pregnant with Brianna. I was doing my preceptorship in July of 1986 at the Twin Fall Clinic and Hospital in Twin Falls, Idaho. Gay, Vickie, and Leanna were all nurses there. I loved these little hospital! After I passed my state boards in October, all of my classmates went to work at the big hospital and other places. I was the only one that went to work at the clinic. I worked there from 1986 to 1989. During these years I developed a very close relationship with these three women. I can go for years without talking to them, like when we moved to Texas. When I see them again  we pick up right where we left off. They will always be three of my best friends. Back then we were in our 20's and 30's. Now we're in our 50's and 60's. When Dick decided to go back to school, to work on his masters, I quit my job at the clinic.

On Monday, the day after Christmas, we all got together at my house. My dear friends visited with Dick and the kids. Then the kids joined us to have lunch at Guadalajara. Gay and Leanna paid for everybody's lunch. It was such a fun visit! We talked about all the good times we had at work and out of work. We were all inseparable. My kids really enjoyed the stories. I love all the memories that I made with these women.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2011

CHRISTMAS EVE
Anson was entertaining us by showing off his juggling.
I love, LOVE this boy!
Anson got creative when he was wrapping Giselle's gift. He wrote a bunch of random words on little strips of paper, and two of them gave her a clue where to find her present.
The kids decorated sugar cookies while I made my gingerbread house. Deacon was so excited about all the candy. He kept tasting everything. Deacon took his cookie and his mother's cookies home for Santa.
I found the best gingerbread dough recipe about 2 months ago. Wow! We can't stop eating the bread! It's delicious!!!
I put a little snowman made out of marshmallows in the front of my house. Deacon kept saying, "No-man!"
Dad read The Night Before Christmas to the family as usual.
I felt like something was missing.
I know what was missing! It was Richie and his beautiful, little family. :( This picture was taken last year at the rental house we lived in for a year.
Deacon was so interested in the story.
We jingled the reindeer bells and Deacon ran to the back door. He looked up to the sky and waved. He kept saying, "Bye Santa, Bye reindeer!"
Giselle spent the night with us. After they went to bed, Dad and I played the Santa role and filled up the stockings. I asked Dad why we were doing this if obviously the kids didn't believe in Santa anymore. He said, "Santa will always come to our house. There will always be a Santa!" Santa brought Aubrey a bike that she has been wanting for over a year.
CHRISTMAS DAY
We had a very, very relaxing morning. I made breakfast while everybody was opening presents. Our church was at noon and we only went to Sacrament. The primary children sang some songs and a couple sang a beautiful Christmas song. We listened to two  great speakers.

After church Giselle went to her house to nap. Shortly after church, Brianna, Travis, and Deacon showed up. At 4 they went to spend some time with Travis' family.

When Giselle came back we had a spaghetti dinner. The girls played chess, checkers, and card games most of the day.
Brianna and Travis came back and stayed for a while. Dad and Deacon watched a football game.
Brianna gave Deacon some underwear for Christmas. He was showing of his underwear in this picture.
Dad has completed 5 puzzles this holiday. He started another one 2 days ago. Anson gave him this  hat for Christmas. Dad said this will be his chemo hat.
We found Deacon at the puzzle table wearing Dick's glasses and working on the puzzle.
He whose birth we commemorate this season is more than a symbol of a holiday. He is the Son of God, the Creator of the earth, the Johovah of the Old Testament, the fulfillment of the Law of Moses, the Redeemer of mankind, the King of Kings, the Prince of Peace. . . . Gordon B. Hinckley
I know that we don't celebrate Christmas to give each other gifts, but giving gifts, especially to those we love makes Christmas even more special. This year with everything that has been going on with Dick's health and him having to stop working, he's been on sick leave. His sick leave pay is less than half of what his usual income was. We have been busy filling up all the forms for Social Security disability and for his retirement disability from his work. You can't get benefits from both unless you haven't worked for at least six months. Going to work for me right now is not an option because I want to be with him with whatever he will be going through in the next few months. We are also worried that if I start working it will mess up everything with the Social Security Office. Last but not least, I couldn't work right now even if I wanted to because of the way my ankles/feet feel right now. I am hoping it will pass soon. It's been going on forever. Needless to say, I was so worried about our finances because of our big change in income. If we can only make it until May, we will be alright because Dick will get his retirement disability. I thought that buying presents for our children was not even an option. Because of so many people in our community, we had a wonderful Christmas. Santa mailed us $100.00 from the North Pole. Dear angel friends gave us money, gift cards, and so much more! That almost came close to what Dick was making before he became ill. We are so blessed! We had a box of oranges, grapefruit, a turkey, and a ham delivered to our house. We have been given so much. What a wonderful community to live in! We have felt so much love from so many. Today Anson told me that this is the best Christmas he has ever had. He claims he's never gotten so much. I don't know how that is possible because we had less income. When he told me that this has been the best Christmas, he asked me, "Don't you think it has been the best?" I told him that it was the best because we have Dad with us. Anson said, "Can you imagine if he had to be in the hospital getting chemo?" We didn't know that Dad was listening. Dad yelled from the other room, "Well if I had to be in SLC, we could have at least seen the temple lights!" Dad knows I've been wanting to see the lights for the past two years. We used to go all the time and we haven't seen them lately. When Dick said that, Anson and I just looked at each other and laughed. Anson said, "I love you Dad!" I told Dick, "You always make cancer sound so positive."

This picture hangs in our TV room. This is the picture that our angel friends used to auction Dad at Mr. BHS. This is how they raised $1000.00. Thank you forever!
Dad IS Superman!
  MERRY CHRISTMAS!

A visit with Granpa Call and more hugs from Richie and his cute family.

On Tuesday we drove to Logan to visit with Dad Call. We helped him decorate his Christmas tree. Dad also gave us our Christmas presents.
Dad has a lot more snow in Logan than we do.
We went to the cemetery and decorated the little tree that Dad gave Mom Call.
We had a great visit with Richie, Chrislynn, and the children. Richie treated us to movies at the movie theater where he works. Thursday morning we came back to Burley. Richie sent us home with lots of popcorn.

Snow boarding or skiing???

Anson and his buddies went to Pomerelle today. Anson didn't know if he wanted to ski or snow board. After he got there, he decided to snow board.

He had a great time and is already planning on going back during Christmas break.

Richie's "weekend before Christmas" visit

Richie, Chrislynn, and the children are going to spend Christmas this year in Blanding, Utah. They spend every other year with Chrislynn's family, and every other year with us. They showed up on Saturday and left on Sunday after church and dinner.

Bree had been planning on taking Deacon to see Santa since forever. On Saturday, shortly after they got here, we took the children to see Santa Claus. The children weren't dressed in their Christmas outfits, but we didn't want to miss him. Deacon has been imitating Santa for weeks. He imitates the way he laughs and keeps telling us what he is going to ask Santa for. The minute we put Deacon on Santa's lap, he didn't want anything to do with him. Grace loved Santa and just kept looking at his face. Richie III and Sophia told Santa what they wanted for Christmas.
Brianna and Travis had a Christmas party to attend.
  They sure looked cute!
The kids hanging out with Aunt Aubrey.
Sunday morning the kids were hanging out with Anson.
 So much for Anson's nap.
After Deacon got kicked in the nose, he decided to hang out with Grandpa.
Since I never give fun and memorable presents, this year I decided to have a basket here at grandma's and fill it up with fun treats for the grandchildren. (Fruit snacks, puffy cheetos, candy, play dough, stickers, etc.) I also put some money in there for them. We decided to let the children open their baskets since they won't be with us this Christmas.
When Richie pulled this hat out of his basket, he said, "It's just like my friends hat!" I love, love his beautiful blue eyes!
After church we tried to take a family picture. Travis had to work because of their Christmas schedule.
This is an interesting picture because most of us weren't looking at the camera, but it's the only one where two or more people didn't have their eyes closed.
My four beautiful grandchildren.
Deacon, Richie III, Grace, Sophia
We had a good, relaxing visit. It was way too short, but a great weekend. A few days earlier Santa delivered a puzzle to our home so Richie and Dad worked on it often.
